Description

The Senior Consulting Project Manager will manage and provide subject matter expertise to a team of analysts, consultants, and support staff in the day-to-day management of technology consulting engagements. Duties include identifying and pursuing new opportunities, proposal development, budget monitoring and management, scope execution, client relations, staff development, and similar tasks required for the successful marketing and execution of technology consulting engagements. The Senior Consulting Project Manager is responsible for the successful completion of technology consulting engagements from inception to completion and will support and provide guidance to others performing project management roles as required by multiple projects. The Senior Consulting Project Manager will also lead business development activities as required by the department.

The Senior Consulting Project Manager is responsible for all aspects of projects from business development, scope and fee development, staffing plan development, project oversight and execution, quality management, and financial performance responsibilities. The Senior Consulting Project Manager will support and lead both on-the-job and classroom training efforts for less experienced team members. Key responsibilities will include:

Project execution: Lead all aspects of project execution including scope, schedule, and budget; ensure quality control of deliverables; analyze and communicate project status, risks, schedule, and costs to all internal and external stakeholders; lead multi-discipline teams of project managers, consultants, and analysts; plan, organize, and communicate project personnel needs to department management.

Business development: Develop new, and manage existing, client relationships through client marketing and project interactions; lead in the identification of new sales opportunities with clients; lead all aspects of proposal development and submission including project planning, budgeting, and scheduling; establish critical project objectives and performances with client; lead contract preparation and negotiations.

Leadership: Mentor and train less experienced staff on technical and business aspects of projects and the industry; serve as a recognized industry-leader, both internally and externally, within their subject matter area; support company initiatives.

Typical duties may include the following:

  • Responsible for successful project execution and timely completion of projects within budget while providing expertise in multiple facets of projects including safety, quality, technical analysis, procurement, and project controls. Lead and participate in project planning, scheduling, cost development, and establishing critical project objectives.

  • Consult with clients to gain an understanding of the client’s business needs and sell the services of 1898 & Co.

  • Advise on project risk reviews and consult with the Legal Department as required.

  • Lead the review, negotiation, approval, and execution of consulting agreements and change orders.

  • Lead the implementation of project execution plans, including but not limited to technical analysis, procurement, subcontracting, staffing, and execution. Includes training of new project team members on the project execution process.

  • Coordinate activities of multiple global practices/disciplines and manage the efficient cost-effective utilization of staff while adhering to contractual and performance requirements.

  • Analyze for issues and communicate project status, risks, schedule, and costs to all internal and external stakeholders.

  • Lead and oversee the downstream request for proposal (RFP) and bid process, including preparation of scope, schedule, and budget for opportunity as well as evaluation and selection of partners/subcontractors/suppliers as applicable. Train new project team members on these processes.

  • Analyze and approve internal and external reports including project scheduling, budgeting, cash flow forecast, and project status reports. Present reports to internal and external executive management as required.

  • Conduct project safety, quality, progress and financial audits and assessments as required.

  • Oversee project cost reporting, scheduling, project set-up and closeout of project activities or program level activities as required. Includes training of new project team members as necessary.

  • Communicate financial aspects of projects to executive management, client, and others as required.

  • Direct the project turnover documentation, warranty administration, project closeout, and recordkeeping/retention processes and procedures.

  • Lead and participate in project planning, scheduling, estimating, cost development, and establishing critical project objectives.

  • Report all employee relations issues and consult with the appropriate Human Resources Representative to resolve issues in a compliant and consistent manner.

  • Manage the training programs for project team.

  • Provide performance feedback for each project team member to their respective supervisor and department manager.

  • Oversee the safety & health performance of project team members and subcontractors.

  • Adhere to Burns & McDonnell’s safety programs, training, and policies, as well as promote and manage the safety & health performance of project team members and subcontractors.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Computer Science, or MIS or related field from accredited program is required.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience within related industry.

  • Experience in project management, techniques, and procedures.

  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

  • Strong experience with document control, scheduling, cost control and project management software is preferred.

  • Experience with implementing Oracle Primavera software solutions.

  • Experience with PMIS solutions preferred (Kahua, eBuilder, etc.)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience on consulting projects, client operations, or executing program management in the industries of aviation, commercial, energy, power, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transmission & distribution, or water is preferred.

  • Understanding of general business and financial principles is required.

  • Proven ability to lead, educate, and train a team of multi-disciplined consultants and analysts in regard to their subject matter area.

  • Effective project management skills, specifically regarding technical execution of consulting engagements.

  • Ability to work with existing and new clients to identify new projects, articulate to the clients our ability to perform those projects, and translate that into the sale of consulting services.

  • Ability to communicate with various business contacts to understand their needs and translate them into a scope of work that meets their desired outcomes.

  • Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines and to be effective in on-site work environments.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, including identification of critical path items to ensure deliverable deadlines are met.

  • Ability to focus on the big picture to effectively and efficiently provide services that meet client needs, while also having the ability to identify and analyze details that are critical to project outcomes.

  • Ability to learn new service offerings as client needs and the market requires changes to the service offerings provided by our group.

  • Ability to develop a broad set of service offering types to allow for flexibility to adjust to market conditions.

  • Must be able to meet the company's driving requirements.
