Burns & McDonnell Managing Director in Kansas City, Missouri
The Managing Director is responsible for the managerial direction and leadership. This includes supporting and executing business strategy, developing high performing teams, and promoting the Burns & McDonnell culture, values and mission. The Managing Director will lead the department in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service, and instill in the team 1898 & Co.’s core values of tenacious problem solvers, unselfish collaborators, curious seekers, and grit.
Provide leadership to the team; particularly the business line leads.
Direct and oversee business planning, strategy, and execution; and review performance to ensure that goals and strategy are in alignment with overall global practice goals and are being met.
Responsible for profitable growth of the department; ensuring staff levels, staff loading, and staff assignments meet project requirements while achieving financial metrics set out for the department, such as sales, billability, net income, and PDIP.
Implement, apply and support company, global practice and regional office programs and initiatives; successfully navigating and managing change within the department.
Provide guidance, support, and input on key industry trends that drive the need for services provided by the department. Be a face to the industry and provide thought leadership regarding those trends.
Manage department budget and expenditure of funds.
Recruitment, development, training and retention of staff.
Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for business line leads.
Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the department.
Responsible for interpreting policies, purposes and goals of the organization to staff.
Responsible for collaborating with business development managers, business line leads, project managers, and proposal production staff on proposals to secure work for staff.
Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence.
Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
Responsible for diversity initiatives.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field from an accredited program.
Minimum 13 years related professional experience in consulting, design, or project management. 10 years of experience in the electric power industry is preferred.
Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable.
Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
Candidates must possess ability to process and manage project budgets and financial data.
Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
Must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.
Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Primarily an office working environment.
Must have the ability to use repetitive hand motion and the ability to grasp and type using computer or laptop equipment.
Must be able to sit for long periods of time, talk, hear, walk and stand.
Must be able to lift and or move up to 10 pounds.
Travel to a client site may require traversing potentially ungraded ground, steps, ladders, etc.
Requires the ability to collect and analyze information to make decisions.
Must have the ability to exercise sound judgment and solve problems; the ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities; the ability to understand and apply financial and quantitative analysis; the ability to articulate and speak in front of others; the ability to work under stressful situations, good cognitive and critical thinking skills, ability to maintain accuracy in work, and the ability to concentrate on more than one task at a time.
Must have the ability to understand and apply written/verbal instructions and the ability to delegate instructions.
Must have ability to manage conflict resolution.
