Burns & McDonnell Director, Grid Automation Services - 1898 & Co. (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

1898 & Co., a part of Burns & McDonnell, seeks an energetic, accomplished Director to lead our work in grid automation support services, emphasizing distribution and distributed energy resource management systems (ADMS, DMS, DERMS, DRMS). This position will direct our strategy, business development, and execution of our growing portfolio of work across our customer bases, including investor-owned, municipal, and cooperative utilities and their operators. The candidate will be responsible for expanding our grid management business dynamically and profitably based on 1898 & Co. core values of client satisfaction, entrepreneurship, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and overall outstanding service.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead business development activities, including client, lead and opportunity identification and capture management, and client retention. This includes initiating or assisting in proposal or pursuit strategy and contract negotiations.

  • Lead a team of consultants on delivery of grid management-related engagements and serve as a thought leader in the industry.

  • Lead the creation of new offerings and refine existing offerings for clients surrounding opportunities associated with grid management and grid management systems.

  • Foster, develop, and implement industry-related partnerships that support a healthy and thriving grid management business.

  • Lead, in collaboration with grid management team and other consultants, white papers and thought leadership materials, and present at industry conferences.

  • Serve as a critical advisor to internal and external clients, emphasizing the expanding grid management technologies and market.

  • Responsible for coordinating project planning, including scoping, budgeting, maintaining schedules, communicating, and managing deadlines, and establishing and performing critical project objectives.

  • Manage and execute projects that meet or exceed client expectations for quality, schedule, and budget.

  • Lead, in collaboration with grid management team, drafting project approaches and proposals and effectively present them to prospects and clients.

  • Responsible for grid management annual business planning, which includes financial, resource, and strategic objectives.

  • Interface directly and collaborate with 1898 & Co. leadership in WHQ and regional offices.

  • Support Burns & McDonnell's broader grid management services strategy, planning, business and client development, and project execution.

  • Responsible for strategic client development and management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, computer science, business, or related field from an accredited curriculum. Graduate degree preferred.

  • Minimum 13 years of consulting, utility industry, or industry product experience with at least four years of operational technology experience. Experience must include business development, project planning and execution, financial management, and client coordination.

  • Consulting experience preferred.

  • Industry experience with a broad understanding of the grid management ecosystem with specific expertise in utility implementation and operations.

  • Experience conveying and advising on the value of grid management systems and modernization to executives or directors.

  • Proven ability to lead, educate, and train a team of consultants and analysts.

  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and presentation skills.

  • General business and calculating financial knowledge.

  • Practical project management skills.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
