Burns & McDonnell Distribution Planning Consultant (Houston) in Houston, Texas

Description

Utilize extensive knowledge in electrical distribution planning and the application of grid technologies to improve grid performance and ready the grid for future challenges represented by distributed generation and electrification. Support a broad range of studies and other consulting services to support electricity distribution utilities to make decisions backed by business and engineering analysis, such as load flow, transfer capability, system impact studies, generation interconnection, reliability planning, DER, and electrification impact consulting, and hosting capacity studies. Work with numerous entities in the industry, including investor-owned electric utilities, municipal electric utilities, and electric cooperatives. Contribute to the execution of technical studies and work with project managers to lead the technical execution of projects. The consultant will directly engage with clients to establish study objectives, formulate project approaches, and manage/oversee a team of consultants/ engineers to meet the study objectives and provide the client with useful and actionable deliverables. Assist the project managers and lead aspects of project execution, including staffing plan development, analysis and engineering, schedule and deliverables, and quality management. Telecommuting permitted up to thirty (30) days per year. Domestic travel required up to 20% for internal meetings, client kick off meetings and final presentations. Multiple positions available.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus three (3) years of electric utility operations, planning or consulting experience. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus two (2) years of electric utility operations, planning, or consulting experience in lieu of Bachelor’s plus three (3) years of described experience.

Must have at least two (2) years of experience with the following:

  • Power flow modeling software, including Synergi, CYME, Windmil, SKM, or ETAP.

  • Evaluating system performance, simulation of power flows, and developing solutions and upgrades of electric distribution facilities.

  • Load flow, reliability, short circuit, voltage, protection coordination, and outage analysis.

  • Either consulting or working directly for investor-owned electric utilities, municipal electric utilities, or electric cooperatives.

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT).

Telecommuting permitted up to thirty (30) days per year. Domestic travel required up to 20% for internal meetings, client kick off meetings and final presentations.
